Con la Venia: learning civil procedural law through a visual novel

What happens when a physicist studying law gets frustrated with how procedural law is taught? You build a game.

Con la Venia is an interactive visual novel that walks you through Spanish civil procedural law (Derecho Procesal Civil) using scenario-based storytelling. Instead of memorizing articles, you make decisions — file a claim, choose jurisdiction, respond to motions — and see the consequences unfold.

The idea

I’m pursuing a Law degree at UOC alongside my work in quantum technologies. Procedural law is notoriously dry, yet it’s fundamentally about sequences, decisions, and consequences — which maps naturally to interactive fiction. So I built it with Ren’Py, a visual novel engine, and deployed it as a web app on GitHub Pages.

Who is this for?

Anyone studying Spanish civil procedural law who’d rather learn by doing than by reading the LEC article by article. It’s free, it works in the browser, and it saves your progress.
